Our Purpose:

The purpose of Cracking the Coconut is to inform, challenge and debate taboo topics of conversation, and breakdown expired, traditional ways of thinking with hopes to bridge the gap of understanding between Filipinos and Filipino-Americans.

We don’t claim to know everything there is to know about Filipino culture, or the diverse tapestry that is the Filipino people. What we do know however, are the undeniable truths of our personal experiences as Filipino-Americans.

With millions of stories out there, each unique like the people they belong to, we are here to listen and to learn. Let’s find common ground and shift perspectives, by cracking one coconut at a time.

Cheers, Carla Jay and Jasmine
